Houston Community College Moves To Protect Trans Students

Houston Community College has joined the Houston Independent School District in adding protections for transgender students. The Transgender Foundation of America Board President, Lou Weaver, said “As an alum of HCC, this move towards equality is incredibly meaningful. It means that transgender students get to go to school and not have to worry about facing discrimination based upon their gender identity or expression.”

The HCC Board took action to protect transgender students after an investigation into a recent incident found problems with HCC staff. That incident followed on the heals of a June 2010 bashing incident raised questions about the safety of transgender students.

Nice going, Lou! I will begin a continuing education class on February 7th and it makes me feel a bit safer knowing that they are finally protecting gender identity and expression. Keep up the great work.

  2. Hope this program is going well and hopefully moves into GPISD.
